A familiar line from Romeo and Juliet is, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” I have a name; it was given to me by my earthly parents. I have a married name, registered in the state of Illinois. In Genesis 2:19-23, God brought the animals to Adam to see what Adam would call them; it gave them category, identity, destiny, and purpose.
Revelations 2:17 (NKJV) says, “To him who overcomes…I will give him a white stone…on the stone, a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” John 1:1 tells us that, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
In the book of Luke 1:30-33, the angel Gabriel came to a virgin named, Mary and said to her, “Don’t be afraid….you have found favor (grace) with God. You (Mary) will conceive in your womb (not by physical means) and bring forth a Son and shall call His name Jesus!”
In 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45, Jesus is called the last Adam. This last Adam(Jesus) has been given the power and authority to name(call) everyone/everything that God brings to Him! Whatever He calls you, that’s who you are!!!
- He calls us Sons! (mature offspring-no gender), (John 1:12, Romans 8:14).
- He calls us righteous! (Romans 5:17, 21, Gal. 2:21).
- He calls us healed! (1 Peter 2:24)
- The Father has given us a name!
Jesus came in the likeness of men. God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name that’s above every name (Philippians 2:7-11).
Whatever we ask the Father in Jesus’ name, He will grant it to us (John 14:14). At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in Heaven, on the earth and under the earth. Every tongue shall confess that JESUS IS LORD!! Ask yourself, what’s in a name?
