I remind you today to give others the grace you need for yourself. Extend mercy, because you understand what it’s like to be misunderstood. When those who should celebrate you belittle you, ask me why. You may be surprised to learn of the pain they’re carrying. The words of those who berate you are indications of their own self-hatred. A person who withholds love is often a person who isn’t receiving the love they need. Will you love them for me? Will you look past their actions and find my heart?
Be careful about judging the hearts of those around you. It’s easy to justify your anger and pain, but I’m calling you to a higher lifestyle. If I’ve placed you in dark places, it’s because I know you are full of light. Will you shine for me? Will you allow mercy and kindness to soften hard hearts? You see the outsides, but I see in the hidden caverns of their hearts. I see their greatest need, and I’m asking you to pray for those who speak ill against you. Let me fill your love tank so you will overflow everywhere you go.
Matthew 7:1–3
The Passion Translation
Refuse to be a critic full of bias toward others, and judgment will not be passed on you. For you’ll be judged by the same standard that you’ve used to judge others. The measurement you use on them will be used on you. Why would you focus on the flaw in someone else’s life and yet fail to notice the glaring flaws of your own?
