The sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross is the foundation of our faith and the assurance of eternal salvation. His death and resurrection fully paid the penalty for sin, reconciled us to God, and secured our place in eternity for those who believe. There is nothing we can add to what Christ has already accomplished—it is finished!
Scripture teaches us the sufficiency of Christ’s work:
“For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” -Hebrews 10:14
Jesus’ single sacrifice was enough to perfect us in the eyes of God forever. No additional works or rituals are required to make us right with Him.
“When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”-John 19:30
Christ’s declaration, “It is finished,” signifies the completion of His mission to redeem humanity. The debt of sin was paid in full, and nothing more remains to be done.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”-Ephesians 2:8-9
Salvation is a gift we receive through faith, not something we earn through human effort.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” -Romans 8:1
Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are free from condemnation. Our salvation is secure in Him.
“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” -John 10:28-29
Jesus Himself assures us of the eternal security of those who belong to Him. Once saved, we are in His hand, held by the power of God and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
What does this mean for us?
We can rest in the finished work of Jesus. Salvation is not about striving, but trusting. It is not about earning, but believing. The cross is sufficient for our past, present, and future sins. Christ’s blood paid the price once for all (Hebrews 9:12), and His resurrection is our proof of victory over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Take heart, brothers and sisters!
Our salvation is eternal, secure, and complete in Jesus Christ. Let us fix our eyes on Him, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and proclaim His sufficiency to a world in need of hope.
As believers, we are called to live in gratitude, obedience, and worship—not to earn salvation but to respond to the incredible gift we have already received.
